POST CUP 13/11/2011
Great effort to all for the cup. Firstly, thankyou to all our sponsors who provided a wide range of prizes. Special thanks to our title sponsor 180 Nutrition, but also a big thankyou to ROM, RingSport, Armando Sports, Kettlebell Training Academy, Kat Computers, Fuji Film, P KYME & Co Wesgrowers, Cocobella, Trigger Point Performance Australia, Vivid Electrical, Reebok, Running Centre and PSI Screen Printing. We hope that our sponsors can keep us in mind for next year when we do it all again. Judges / Helpers / MC / Runners / Scorers etc, if it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have pulled it off. You guys were the back bone of the day and I can only say how thankful we were to have you helping make the day so geat. My head judges, thanks to you for being there to back me up and assist in the decision making. Our core training staff are dedicated and tight nit and that is why we pulled off this gig. To all my athletes who for some competed for the first time. It was a pleasure to see you all giving it your best representing our box, RAW EDGE CROSSFIT. We definitely have something special going on within our REX community that brings people of all ages and types together for a common purpose continually. I know a lot of you weren't that happy with your performance, but I can only say that I am extremely proud of what you all did and how you went about it. For me the result is not important, it is having the opportunity to watch my athletes sweating it out side by side against the best in W.A. Your journey has only just begun and with this experience and future opportunities the results will come. Thank you for the opportunity of watching you give it your all and I look forward to working with you in the future. Brian Head Coach Raw Edge CrossFit 1 Comment Well 13/10/2011
Been a while guys, but a few things have been happening over the last few months and there are a few things coming up. FIGHT GONE BAD: This weekend. Strong contingent of REX athletes supporting this worthwhile cause. Great work guys. Still a chance to get involved. AFFILIATE CUP: This is our show and it promises to be big. We have five teams registered covering all divisions and I wish all the best to the REX crew. We will need a lot of volunteers/judges/helpers on the day guys so make sure you talk to Sam or Brian to register your assistance. GAMES 2012: February 2012 is when it all begins again. REX will be holding all open WODS during the five weeks of the OPEN and hoping to push a team through to the Regionals for 2012. If you are wanting to compete and wish to get some extra coaching in relation to oly lifts, gymnastic movements or whatever make sure you let Brian know. It is essential that you do this now as there is only four months until the open. BOOTCAMP: Into the third week and going strong. I do apologise for a few hiccups in relation to our sessions, but bear with us guys as we are sorting out our shortfall in trainers and will have it all rectified as soon as a few other commitments have been finalised this month. A few changes are gradually been implmented to change up the training for you guys and I am hoping to get some feedback from you all in relation to whether or not you like or dislike the new changes to our Boot Camp structure. More on this shortly. Busy times to come. Lastly please make sure you talk to the trainers if you advice on anything at all or wish to work on some of your weaknesses. All the trainers are there to support and assist you all with progressing through your CrossFit journey. NEARLY TIME 14/09/2011
Not Long now until all the comps kick off. Next weekend is the Primal Pairs, mid October for the FGB fundraiser and it all culminates to the Affiliate Cup on 12 November. Great effort by our crew to register 6 pairs for the Primal Pairs. Looking forward to sweating with you all. Make sure you get on the Fight Gone Bad fundraiser on 15/16 October. A worthwhile cause and a great opportunity to come together. We had over a dozen athletes competing last year and I would love to beat it this year. AFFILIATE CUP - Exciting news will be released the same time as registrations open. WODS have nearly been confirmed and registrations will open very very shortly..... BOOTCAMP - Starts off next week. Looking forward to all new and old Bootcampers jumping on our new format and can't wait to start off our third season of outdoor training. EXCITING TIMES People....... CHECK IT OUT!! 14/08/2011
What can I say except what an experience. The CrossFit Games 2011 was something that I recommend to everyone to experience. Three days of full on compeition that culminated to the crowning of the fittest man and woman on the planet. If you get the opportunity to see it for yourself definitely get on board. I dare say, that we will hopefully be back next year, with a few REX crew in tow. So whats going on at REX you ask?????......... Heaps!!!!!! Competitions, training, boot camp, birthday and more training. Coming up we have three comps in WA starting with the Pairs Throwdown being hosted by SXF in September. Followed closely by Fight Gone Bad at CrossFit Perth in October and then the AFFILIATE CUP at REX in November. We are hoping to support the events at SXF and CFP guys so keep make sure you nominate when the opportunity presents itself. In tow with the AFFILIATE CUP we will be celebrating our 2nd Birthday and yes it is hard to beleive that Rex has been going now for 2 years solid. Remember that there are three classes, beginner, intermediate and RXD, so everyone is welcome to have a go. Training is ramping up with the view to going bigger and better next year in the 2012 Games. I am hoping that some of our athletes will get through the OPEN, if they run a similar format, as individuals and have the option of competing either as an individual at the REGIONALS or within the REX Team. So if your considering competing at this level, let me know. BOOTCAMP starts again in September, dates will be confirmed shortly. There will be some changes with the BOOTCAMPS, as we strive to make them bigger and better, but locations will remain the same. In line with providing you a better service as you strive to achieve your fitness goals, we will be providing you regular updates on our website, via the Bootcamp link so you can track progress, view photos of the training sessions and see what events we have planned, including challenges. So all in all exciting times ahead. Where to from here? 10/07/2011
It's been a long year so far with a lot of events to keep us busy. There was our In House comp in Feb which saw G and Ange come out as our Top Dawgs, then a long 7 weeks of the CrossFit open leading up to the Regional’s where Robbo, Deb J, G, Ange, Glynny and I competed. All capped off nicely with the Primal Throwdown which saw 6 of our athletes compete and Michael take out second place! Don't worry though guys there is still more to come and we're looking to see everyone get in the competition spirit. Coming up we have the long awaited CrossFit World Games in California which Brian, Sam and myself will be attending so keep an eye out for all the updates we post on the website!! But while we're away don't forget you can watch some live competition at The CrossFit Chamber with the Call to Arms being held on the 30th July. Then once we have returned from the States we will be looking at holding our next In House Competition so keep an ear out for any info on that one. In October CrossFit Perth will be hosting their annual the Fight Gone Bad Competition to raise money for the SAS Trust. This will be held on the 8th October. But most importantly in November Raw Edge CrossFit will have its second Birthday!!! Rather than celebrating with a big party like we did last year, this year will be the first year of our "AFFILIATE CUP". For those of you who haven’t heard about it yet be sure to check out our website and speak to some of our trainers about getting involved! We will be opening up registration in September so plenty of time for you all to get your teams sorted! Now guys as I mentioned we will be heading to the states in 2 weeks for the Games so there will be some minor changes to schedule! Be sure to check that out when it is posted during the week. Finally I'd like to take this chance to welcome our newest trainer G who has recently joined the REX training team!! Keep up the good work guys!! -Aimee THROWDOWN - Better late than never 29/06/2011
Again I want to pass on congrats to all those guys that had a crack at the THROWDOWN last Saturday at SXF. The efforts of the REX athletes was amazing and I was again inspired by the determination and efforts shown by all. Thanks also to the athletes that came to spectate. You guys give the competitors that extra edge and I know you wanted to be down there along side of them sweating away.... NEXT TIME...... Well done to those guys that made it through to the finals, Donna, Tuyen, Mike, Michael and G. All of you finished well within the top 10 and left your mark on the WA CrossFit community as well as represented REX admirably. It can be said that the WODs were challenging and none more so than the final 5 WODS that made up the finals. For me still 'love' running and what can I say about pistols. Stoked that I got out around 5 rounds of them!!!!! I think G and I surprised ourselves with that WOD. Tuyen, what can I say. All over the intermediate level even though she was a little unsure of competing at that level. Finished top 10 and I believe would have finished higher except for a chin bar that was a little out of reach. Donna again finished in the 10 for her level. Inspirational effort on the row and last final WODS, but again the old chin bar got her. Both our girls are up and comers and showed their worth in a tough field. The two Mike's competed at the beginner level and held their own throughout. Again up and comers and with their limited CrossFit experience did unbelievable. I am a firm believer that you need to show a bit of heart in CrossFit, as when you just don't have anything left, heart and determination get you through. This was shown by these two fellas and in fact by all REX athletes throughout the day. G Banger, exploded onto the CrossFit scene with a top 5 showing. Left his mark on the WA communty and will be one to watch for future comps. Some big hitters competed on the day and G held his own throughout. Smashed the pistols and left them for dead on the run. Strong showing and much much more to come...... SO all in all a great day and all I can say is looking forward to the next one guys............ On the radar is the Xmas in July guys on the 9th July. Looking forward to catcging up with everyone. Also retest for Jackie will be next week. Apology for the delay, had to put it off due to Trigger Point and other commitments. Chat soon..... Inside Jokes? 03/06/2011
What do you get when you put a group of REX athletes and spectators in Sydney? A trip of a life time! For those of you who were not lucky enough to come on our trip to Sydney for the Reebok CrossFit Regional Games, you missed one hell of a trip, a trip where we discovered Brandon’s planking skills, G’s music knowledge, Ange’s love of Krispy Kreme’s and Brian’s dislike of cardigans! For most of you none of this will make any sense, but here is the insight into the REX Regional experience. Many of you will have heard the number 7 screamed around the gym since we got back, so did the whole hotel when Brian and G went up and down the elevators and the hallways yelling it. Apparently it’s our lucky number now. This was the time we were meeting for breakfast Friday morning so we could make it to the Games by 8.30….. Or so we hoped… Due to our limited knowledge of how to get to Olympic Stadium and G’s fantastic direction giving, we arrived at the stadium less than 20 minutes before our first workout. You would think this would have put a dampener on our spirits but somehow we were pumped and ready to go. Now believe it or not, our bus rides actually became one of our favourite parts of the trip, we learnt that Brandon prefers Hungry Jacks over McDonalds because “the burgers are better at Hungry Jacks”, that there are shops in Sydney that specialise in removing head lice (apparently the Police frown upon you standing on the road to get a handstand photo in front of it) and that you should never take G and Brian to a club because they will insist on imitating peoples dancing…. While driving. The bus rides led to many drive by handstands and planks (including planks on giant shoes). BUT YOU SHOULD NEVER PLANK BECAUSE “THAT’S HOW PEOPLE DIE” right Brandon! The night’s were great with lots of food (including raw fish- sorry Ange) and lots of drinks (BONDIII). But it turns out that, we’re not great with directions out of the bus either, we learnt this after an hour or so walk around Parramatta. There are some things that we just can’t explain so for those of you who were there here are some things we’ll never forget, Hooters, Rug Lovers, “START THE CAR!!”, the sprinkler, “get some nuts”, YMCA, getting left in the rain, “that’s how we roll”, Brandon’s cramp and of course our beloved SEVEN!! A huge thank you to everyone who came over, you guys made the trip what it was! We can’t wait for next year and we hope that the trip will be just as good! SEVEN!!! GAMES 02/06/2011
G'day guys been another big few weeks with the highlight being the Regionals and featuring the REX Team at their first games. Great effort by all team member and support crew and I hope you all enjoyed it people. For those that missed out get on board next year as we strive to improve and get some guys through in the individual competition as well. WELL DONE to all Perth based athletes that competed at the games including athletes from SXF, The Chamber, SF Gym, The Cell and CFP. In particular congrats to the guys at SXF who made top 3 in the team and booked a spot for the world games. And not forgetting Cee frin CFP who finished top 10 again at Regionals and will definitely book her spot next year at the worlds. Well Done Cee, it was great to be able to support you and all athletes from Perth. Few changes coming up with more emphasis on working on individual skills and improving technique in all movments, while still providing you quality fitness training and assisting you to achieve your goals. Also the monthly challenges will be a common gig as we continue to set benchmarks and then aim to have you to improve on these. TRIGGER POINT is on the cards later this month as REX will become a training provider and also then be able to provide the tools for all REX athletes to better manage their bodies. So all in all busy times ahead. Don't forget that Sam, myself and Aimee head over to the US in July for a couple of weeks to check out the games and attend as many boxes as we can. Looking forward to the experience. LASTLY - Later this month we are hoping to have a REX get together to celebrate birthdays, regionals and anything else we can think of. Potential dates to be provided shortly. SEVEN.......... Updated Stats :) 08/05/2011

LONG TIME 06/05/2011
Hi guys, long time no post. Been pretty hectic with the OPEN and training over the last two months. I firstly want to thank all the REX crew for their support and commitment over the last few months. The support shown to each other has been awesome and unrivaled. As a trainer, not only have I been proud of your efforts and commitment but marvelled at your progress. For majority of you this is your first games and I think will not be your last. The dedication to completing WODS RXD shows the seriousness each and every one of you have in your training and progression. It is to say the least, inspirational.. To our loyal spectators, without your support every week and particularly on those Saturday mornings, the atmosphere would not be the same. It can easily be said that wherever a REX athlete competes a support crew will follow and be the loudest and show the most support. This has been clearly evident over the last two months. Please continue your support as the REX community is stronger than ever thanks to your support. I am proud to say that at least six athletes will have the opportunity to compete at the REGIONALS in Sydney during the period of 27 - 29th May 2011. I look forward to traveling away with a very strong representation from REX and I am show the same support for not only our athletes, but other athletes from Perth will continue to be unrivaled. From there Sam, Aimee and myself will be attending the World Games in the US in July. We are all excited about seeing how its done in the states, the home and origin of CrossFit and are hoping to bring back a lot of good stuff for you guys. Lastly, congrats to Chelsea and Chris who are in the process of opening a box in Albany under the Raw Edge Fitness banner. I look forward to supporting them as they build a community in Albany and hope that you all will show the same support as the REX community grows. It is my intention to take a crew down to Albany for their opening and assist with some display WODS, so stay tuned for more details on this shortly. At this stage I think they are planning to crank it up around July 2011. COMING UP - Southern CrossFit are hosting another PRIMAL THROWDOWNon the 25th June. Make sure if you want to have a go, let myself or Sam know so we can make sure you register and don't miss out. The boys at SXF will cap numbers, so you will need to get in quick. | Brian - Trainer REXWelcome to the Raw Edge Fitness BLOG. CategoriesArchivesNovember 2011 | ||||||
